Here are answers to our most frequently asked questions.
Q. What is the tournament status?A. The 2025 tournament is accepting applications now for teams to play in the 2025 tournament
in 60+, 65+ and 70+ divisions. There is room for a few individuals in the Player Pool. The schedule is expected to be released around May 15, 2025.
Q. What is the latest time to book a flight out?
A. On Monday, the very earliest flight I would book is 6:00 pm. We are
good at getting games started on time, including "no inning starts
after 2hr,15min," but the last day (Monday) games have no time limits.
We built in a 15-minute cushion each game and we won't drag fields
between games if running late, but an extra inning game could be
problematic. Expect last game to start 1:30, end at 4:00, which leaves
an hour for games that run over and an hour to get to the airport and
board, which is cutting it close from North County fields. See
schedule.
Q. What is the team fee?
A. Fee for 2021 is estimated to remain $155 per player. We supply baseballs, beverages,
lunch
and umpires. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization so if you make
checks out to
"North County Mens Baseball League"
the major part (all but meals and items of value provided to you) will
be income tax deductible (2015 estimated $130 deductible).
Q. What happens if it rains?
A. The chance of significant rain at this time in San Diego is
extremely unlikely. But for that rare occurence we do have a written
contingency plan to follow, which includes securing additional fields,
shortening games, adding a night game, etc.
Q. Regarding the age 60 rule, can anyone who turns 59 in the calendar year play?
A. No. There are no age waivers in this tournament, no exceptions. All players must be 60+ by December 31 (same with 65
and 70 in those divisions). See our
Rules page.
Q. Are there any fields restrictions, e.g. can I bring my dog?
A. Here are the current (2019) field restrictions: No alcohol
allowed at any of the fields, including the parking lots (all schools).
Smoking is prohibited on all High School (Escondido HS) and Community
College District facilities (Palomar). Seeds are not allowed on field
or in stands at SDSU and Palomar College. Dogs are not allowed at most
schools, but the policy is rarely enforced. Service dogs (not emotional
support dogs) are allowed at all fields in accordance with the Ameicans
With Disabilities Act - see
www.ada.gov and the
2010 amended service animal policy.
Q. Is the tournament sanctioned by MSBL?
A. Of course. They advertise us in the
MSBL National Regional tournaments schedule, and all organizations are welcome to play in our FUN tournament..
Q. How is the tournament played and how are teams seeded?
A. Each team will play 4 pool games in random order within their
division, which will determine specific seeding. Teams may be
pre-seeded
only into National (higher) and American (lower) divisions. That
determination is made first by prior year placement and results. Teams
that win the American division are likely to move up the following
year; likewise, teams that do not have any success in National division
play, will likely move down. Usually playoff seeds will be detemined by
results in pool play. The tournament director and committee may
move teams between divisions based on specific considerations such as
recent tournament performance or manager requests. In 2018-19, during the
seeding round/round robin, there were no seeds. After pool play,
teams will be ranked within division by their won-loss percentage, with
ties resolved by head-to-head competition, total runs allowed, then a
coin toss. The tournament committee, in rare circumstances, may
re-balance seeds between divisions, if any are determined to be out of
line.
